Coin Designs: Toronto Maple Leafs®

Designed by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, your coin features full colour over an engraved scene that pays tribute to the hockey legacy of the Toronto Maple Leafs®. On this quiet residential street, a fast-paced game of street hockey has outlasted daylight; under the glare of the street light overhead, four young Leafs fans are dressed in their warmest winter gear, which match their favourite team's colours. Winter's chill hasn't slowed them down—each breath is visible in the cold air as two players rush to the net. With each player racing to steal away the puck, one closes in on it to try to poke it past the fourth youth guarding the net. There's a timeless quality to this scene that could have easily taken place years ago, were it not for the brief glimpse of recent models of cars parked in the background. Above these passionate young players is the Toronto Maple Leafs iconic logo in the team's blue and white colours. The reverse also features the engraved face value “10 DOLLARS”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Montreal Canadiens®

Designed by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, your coin features full colour over an engraved hockey-themed scene set at an outdoor rink. The sun has set over this neighbourhood, but that hasn't stopped a group of youths from continuing their game well into the evening. Under the glow of a street light, five youths proudly wear their team colours and skates as they play over the mirror-like ice surface. While one player looks on, two players find themselves tied up in their efforts to get the puck; meanwhile, another player has possession of the puck and takes the shot—it's a goal! Kneeling on leg pads, the goaltender turns to look behind in disbelief at the puck in the net. Above the scene is the Montreal Canadiens® logo, with its iconic red “C” outlined in blue and white, and a smaller “H” inside.

Ottawa Senators®

Designed by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, your coin features full colour over an engraved scene that celebrates hockey in the nation's capital, where young Ottawa Senators fans head outdoors to play street hockey. The autumn colours of Eastern Ontario are in full view in the background, where the red, orange and yellow maple foliage adds a burst of colour to a balmy afternoon in this quiet residential neighbourhood. Four youths on roller blades scramble for the puck. One boy rolls behind the unguarded net to join the boy and girl in the foreground, each one bearing a wide grin that is a natural expression of their enthusiasm and deep love for the game. Above them, the team logo of the Ottawa Senators features a forward-facing Roman senator wrapped in a red-coloured cape and set against a semi-circle of laurel leaves, whose “O” shape is associated with the home city of Ottawa.

Winnipeg JetsTM

Designed by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, your coin features full colour over an engraved scene, which is set at an outdoor rink in Manitoba. Beneath the overhead lights, four youths share a love for the game as they continue to play into the evening. In the foreground, one player in red, skates towards the boards to retrieve the puck, while the two other players on the right are still in position from the last attempt to score. The goaltender stands before the net, somewhat relaxed but with eyes trained on the two players closest to the crease. All four players are proudly wearing the blue, white and red colours of their beloved home team; above them is the official logo of the Winnipeg Jets, featuring a fighter jet over a maple leaf and all enclosed in a blue roundel.

Edmonton Oilers®

Designed by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, your coin features full colour over an engraved scene that transports the viewer to a rural community near Edmonton. A brisk winter day offers the perfect opportunity for youths to play some hockey out on the frozen ice surface, not far from the silos, farms and trees that dot the landscape in the background. Wearing winter coats, hats and even jerseys that are in step with the colours of their beloved home team, these youths show their enthusiasm through broad smiles and glowing expressions! In the foreground, two players cross their sticks as they fight for control of the puck near an unguarded net; behind them, one child is preparing its equipment before joining in this exciting game of shinny hockey. Above them is the familiar blue, white and copper-coloured logo of the Edmonton Oilers.

Calgary Flames®

Designed by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, your coin features full colour over an engraved outdoor scene. In a rural community outside of Calgary, three youths are immersed in their game of road hockey. The passion these young players have for the game is evident by their body language, as each leans into the play. To the right, a player has possession of the puck and tries to line up a shot, while another reaches across to steal the puck away. The third player crouches slightly in front of the net, trying to anticipate the shot so that he might prevent it from entering the net. All three are proudly wearing the colours of their favourite team, which stand out against the white of the snow- and ice-covered landscape. Above the scene is the Calgary Flames® logo, with its flaming red “C” outlined in black and yellow.

Vancouver Canucks®

Designed by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota, your coin features full colour over an engraved hockey-themed scene. The ice-capped mountain peaks and tall conifers provide a stunning backdrop to this scene set in Western Canada, where a group of youths have gathered to play hockey on a paved outdoor rink. A lack of ice does little to deter these players on this balmy afternoon: with a canine friend in net, one player uses his body to help maintain “puck” possession while two others look for an opportunity to steal the ball away. The smiles on the boy and girl's faces show the light-hearted nature of this game, while all three players proudly wear their home team's colours. The two youths on the right are depicted wearing t-shirts with the Vancouver Canucks logo; a larger version of the logo appears above them, with its familiar Haida art-inspired rendition of a breaching orca jumping out of the “C”-shaped ice.
