Royal Nippon Cream and Sugar. This lovely set pre-dates the requirement for manufacturers’ marks, which was introduced in 1891 in the U.S.A. However, the set illustrates the characteristics of Nippon: the use of deep cobalt blue borders, gilding and hand-painted flowers. The double-handled sugar bowl is 5 inches tall (from the base to the top of the lid). The oblong-shaped opening for the sugar bowl is 2 ½ inches by 3 inches and the distance from one end of the two handles to the other is approximately 6 inches. The creamer measures 3 inches in height by 4 ½ inches from the tip of the spout to the handle. This charming pair is in great condition with no chips or cracks.
