A 6-cent stamp saluting the American Indian, Chief Joseph, Nez Percé Warrior was issued November 4, 1968. It pictures a National Portrait Gallery image of Chief Joseph a Nez Percé chief who, faced with settlement by whites of tribal lands in Oregon, led his followers in a dramatic effort to escape to Canada.
