On May 20th 1972 Richard Nixon left Washington enroute to Russia for a week of summit meetings with Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and other Soviet officials. On May 26, Nixon and Brezhnev signed the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT), the most significant of the agreements reached during the summit. In addition, the groundwork was laid for a joint space flight in 1975.

Here is a rarely seen unaddressed FIRST DAY COVER issued on May 20th 1972 to mark Nixon’s departure for a summit meeting with Leonid Brezhnev and postmarked Washington DC. A single standard issue US 8-cent stamp depicts the White House and American flag. Add this historic US cover to your collection for only $3.

* Discounts available on 10 or more First Day Covers.
