Vintage late 1940's Art Pictures - I have two.
The first is a wood framed very old original Oil painting of a child in a white dress posing in a portrait. The picture was framed at a company called Enggass Jewelery Company from 223 Monroe Ave. Detroit , MI. Of course a streetview of google maps shows this corner completely redone. With no sign of this building around. This jewelry company was in business from the late 1800's to the 1940's. This oil painting measures 13.75" x 11" wide. Author unknown. I will sell it for $72.00. It dates to around 1943.
The second one is a Reverse Foil Picture by Artist J. Jensen and is a vintage 1940's picture of a Victorian Crinoline lady pushed by a man on a swing. There is some damage to this art picture. I will sell it for $10.00
Tinsel painting is a craft with a long tradition. It is a special form of painting in which the design is inked in black on the reverse side of glass and filled in with transparent colors. When the glass is put in the frame, a piece of crumpled aluminum foil is placed behind it so that the light passing through the transparent paint reflects off the foil giving a special dazzling quality.
