The Adams family had potteries in Staffordshire as early as 1650. Whilst there is no longer an Adams pottery, some of their designs are still produced with their backstamp under the Wedgwood Group name.
Offered for sale here is a charming vintage mug that depicts Oliver’s reception by Fagin and the Boys. Fagin, the Artful Dodger, Nancy and Bill Sikes are all present in two transferware scenes from Oliver Twist. On the bottom is the trademark: ADAMS Real English Ironstone · Micratex · Est. 1657 · England · Member of the Wedgewood Group in addition to the quote: “Then, Marchioness," said Mr. Swiveller, "fire away!” and "Oliver’s reception by Fagin and the Boys". The mug measures 4 ¼” high by 4 ¾” at the widest point and 3 ¼” top diameter.
This rare mug will be of interest to anyone who is a fan of Charles Dickens and his timeless writings. It is in excellent vintage condition – no chips or cracks .
