RARE Hand Carved Shona Stone 'Flower' Sculpture by Onias Mupumha

For sale is an outstanding example of Shona stone sculpture by award-winning, contemporary, Zimbabwean artist, Onias Mupumha. Shona sculptures are usually carved from springstone, a type of Zimbabwean serpentine that sculptors use most frequently. The themes of Shona sculptures are usually based on spirits/ancestors, rituals, folklore, totems and family. Water spirits are a very common theme. Mupumha is one of few Shona artists specializing in floral and leaf works, creatively having fun with botanical shapes that seem to be very animated and filled with energy, as if blowing in the wind. This particular example, full of various colours and deep striations, appears to be a flower springing forth to life. It stands 13" tall and weighs 4 lbs. 13.35 oz. Regarding the condition, the piece has been beautifully polished to a smooth and glossy finish. It bears no cracks, as what can be seen in the images are natural, deep striations and varying colour tones in the stone. There are a few very minor nicks noted on the 'stem.' A black felt pad has been added to the bottom of the piece to improve standing stability. Under the pad on the bottom of the piece is the identifying production number '326.' (image available upon request) It is clearly signed by the artist and presents as a flowing, spirited work of stone art! A fantastic piece of art for the discerning collector. Available for $120. Serious inquiries only. Low-ball offers will be strictly ignored or blocked. NW London Pick Up Only Please. No delivery. Item sold as-is (fine condition) on a first-come-first-served basis. NO Holds.
