Your Ertl American Muscle 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona 1:18 (Made in Macau) was most likely produced in the late 1990s to early 2000s. Ertl’s American Muscle Gold Collection was released primarily during that period before the brand went through several ownership changes. Brief History of the Real 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona Why It Was Created The 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was built for one reason: to dominate NASCAR. Dodge wanted a competitive edge on high-speed superspeedways, and the regular Charger just wasn’t fast enough in a straight line. ✨ Aerodynamic Breakthrough To achieve top speeds over 200 mph, engineers gave the Daytona: A pointed “nose cone” front end A massive rear wing (taller than the roof) A flush-mounted rear window These were radical aerodynamic innovations at the time. Racing Success The Daytona paid off almost instantly — it became the first car to break 200 mph in NASCAR competition. Drivers like Bobby Isaac and Buddy Baker took wins, and the Daytona helped Dodge secure a strong competitive reputation. Limited Production To qualify for NASCAR homologation rules, Dodge had to build at least 500 production cars — and they built about 503 units. Most were equipped with big V8 engines like: 426 Hemi 440 Magnum Because so few were made and because of their race heritage, original Daytonas are now extremely collectible. Legacy The Daytona — and its Plymouth Superbird cousin — pushed NASCAR to change aerodynamics rules because others simply couldn’t compete with their top speed advantage. Today the Daytona is one of the most iconic muscle cars of all time. Pickup location: Mavis Road and Eglinton Ave W.
