** Still on display at Nostalgia Warehouse on Sat 18 Oct 2025. ** WW1 ammo box M1915 US Army oak brass for Vickers Colt 30 cal machine gun {Boîte à munitions M1915 US Army en chêne pour mitrailleuse Vickers Colt 30 cal.} This US Army WW1 M1915 ammo box is made of oak and brass and was used to hold ammunition for the Vickers Colt machine gun. The box held 250 belted rounds of .30 cal (.303 and .306) ammunition. This is a rare item. The Vickers machine gun was first designed and built in the UK and was in service in many countries from 1912 to 1968. Vickers machine guns destined for the US Army, were built by Colt in the USA. Materials: Latch and hinge are made of brass. Box is made of oak. Leather carrying handle on top. Construction: Joints are finger or box, not dove-tail. Condition: Good antique condition. Structurally sound. There should be stenciled rounds on bottom of box to show correct direction for rounds to be loaded, but this probably fell out. The bottom board is cracked. Paint has chipped off in places. Some paint drips on sides. Two screws replaced on hinge. The hinge and closure catch work perfectly. Dimensions: 4.5 inches wide x 15.25 inches long x 8 inches high. The Colt Vickers ammo box is similar to the Browning box but with distinct differences. Box is made of oak. The latch and hinge are brass. The joints are finger or box (not dovetail) joints. The stenciled cartridges on the inside bottom that show the direction the rounds were loaded are faded but clearly visible. The original leather handle is intact. The paint is weathered but original except for the front which was painted blue/green at some point. The wood is in good condition however the lid has a crack in it. The box was lightly cleaned to retain the patina. Overall, the ammo box is in very good condition considering its age and is a great collectors item.
