Massive antique Victorian ca.1890 illustrated leather-bound book "The Life of Christ" by the Rev. F.W. Farrar, D.D., Canon of Westminster. With numerous engraved illustrations, both full-page and in-text, many in color. A spectacular antiquarian tome in large 4to size - measures 13" by 10" by 2 3/4" and weighs 9 Lbs unpackaged.
Published by Cassell, Petter, Galpin, & Co., London, Paris, New York, undated, ca. 1890. Good antiquarian condition, size thick large 4to in period hardcover binding - brown cloth over boards, fading gilt stamped title on front cover and fading gold lettering and vignettes on leather spine. Some rubbing to the covers, spine scuffed, somewhat extreme wear to edges and corners, the corners are bumped. The pages are very slightly age-browned with some occasional light foxing - normal for the age and paper quality. The binding is tight, no loose, torn or missing pages, no stamps or signatures, complete with 756 pages, illustrated throughout.
A well preserved and uncommon large illustrated edition of a Christian classic, about 130 years old.
