Winter Landscape; Oil on canvas by John William Cantrell; Size: 36"x24"; Born in Yreka, CA on Feb. 25, 1871. Cantrell began his art career in
the early 1890s as a newspaper artist for the San Francisco Chronicle. He lived in San Francisco until the earthquake of 1906 and then moved to
the Monterey Peninsula. He was a close friend of artists Myron and Dorothy Oliver, and a painting partner of Lee Randolph. His work includes
scenes of the sand dunes and pine trees of the Monterey Peninsula. Cantrell died at his home in Pacific Grove, CA on April 23, 1931.
