This is a British World War II medical bag used for transporting shell dressings and related equipment. This one appears to have been unissued and stored for decades. This is a good find as most of these bags received hard use following the war given their convenient and handy sizes that made them far more useful than the regular Pattern 37 side pack. As well, this bag does not have a red cross either hand painted, stencilled or slopped on to the front like many of these that you see. These bags were in military use well into the 1970’s which is a testament to the usefulness of a bag of this size and shape.
