Description

Antique Corn cradle Scythe - Mid 1800's The 19th Century corn reaping or cradle scythe consists of an arrangement of fingers attached by a light framework to the snath of a scythe. The scythe has the usual distinctive features of other corn reaping scythes from the era with a cradle rib apparatus attached near the heel of the blade which was used to gather the corn. The primitive farm tool for harvest allowed for slicing and setting aside of the grain in one sweeping motion. The cradle attachment is fastened with an iron ring to the Snead and blade. The scythe is constructed of wood with a metal blade and has four wooden spikes diminishing in size. See Pictures for more details. Please View My Other Ads
