Star Wars (1977) Style A R82 Poster
Rolled/Heavy Stock/NM
ORIGINAL R82 Poster
This poster contains the traditional Thomas Jung illustration, with the sexy Princess Leia pose standing beside Luke Skywalker holding his lightsaber high in the air. C-3PO and R2-D2 are standing below Vader's background helmet and there are X-wings racing to the Death Star overhead to the left. It has the tagline, "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." in the top left-hand corner, and the Star Wars triangular logo straddles the illustration and the credits area to the lower right-hand side. This video poster is basically identical to the '77 style "A" one-sheet, except that it was printed on a heavy card-stock paper like the inserts, half-sheets, and 30 x 40 posters, instead of the traditional glossy paper stock. It also has '© 1977 Lucasfilm LTD.' printed below the illustration on the left-hand side, whereas the original theatrical one-sheet has "© 1977 Twentieth Century Fox". Why was the copyright changed on these video posters you might ask? The reason it was changed from “©1977 Twentieth Century-Fox” to '© 1977 Lucasfilm LTD.' was that 20th Century Fox, in 1979, gave Lucasfilm Ltd. back their copyright, sequel, and merchandising rights as part of a deal George Lucas made with the studio before the release of the Empire Strikes Back. So when these original Thomas Jung Star Wars style "A" posters were reprinted to advertise for the video campaign in 1982, the copyright was changed backed to Lucasfilm Ltd., because it occurred after the deal to retain their property rights.
