S.Kelso Davidson (1848-1922) was born in England but I'm not sure when he immigrated to Canada. An address comes up for him in 1886, living in London, Ontario where he taught Art for 36 years at the London Collegiate Institute.
He is a listed Canadian artist and some of his paintings are with the Art Gallery of Ontario - Edward P. Taylor Research Library and Archives.
The watercolor I have is typical of the landscape found from a wide swath of geography in and around London, Ontario. This river scene was most probably a popular haunt for hikers or skaters near the Collegiate and it would have been charming to have a watercolor of their backyard, from a century ago.
This is a little masterpiece, beautifully painted in soft and subtle colors, in good condition and ready to hang.
