A perfect little street painted in the 1950's, friend and neighbor to my in-laws, several generations ago.
Olivia Nail was an accomplished painter of this market town in Surrey, England, just south south-west of London in the 1950's. The town straddles Epsom Downs and the upper Thanet Beds, the source of our Epsom salts.
Epsom Downs Racecourse holds The Derby, now a generic name for sports competitions in English-speaking countries. The town also gives its name to Epsom salts, extracted from mineral waters there.
Here is an example of a lovely town on a warm Sunday morning as people are beginning to go for walks with their pets along a still mostly deserted street of a tidy little town. The colors on the street are soft, almost pastel, with a marvelous sky above.
Original frame and painting are in good condition.
