Claude Monet (1840-1926) painted a series of approximately 250 water-lily paintings during the last 30 years of his life. Even from the 1880's he revisited themes over and again, registering another nuance or shade from a previous subject. These paintings were done at his home in Giverny, France from a large garden he designed himself.
This is a partial example of a larger work (the left half) called 'Green Reflections'. He is thought to have painted more than 3000 paintings in his lifetime. Monet’s soothingly tranquil series of water lilies continues to powerfully influence abstract artists and capture the essence of atmospheric beauty.
