M. Rowntree, British painter from a family of artists, possible related to Kenneth Rowntree.
It's a small colorful painting of an accomplished painter who has left us a diary of an autumn's walk after a rainfall.
A romantic painting in a park after a sudden rainfall in the fall. There's a small river of water where a path should be and the air and grounds are rainwater clean.
There are some signs of her struggle with finishing the work, trying to capture something she can share in...what was important for her to paint. Some notes written verso in pencil: "Take out stones...water...less blue...darker...xxx", reminders of what her intentions in this work were.
"The thing that's interesting...is that there’s a place or a hill or a rock, or something like that, something that I have experienced that I am able to make it into something new, which is an equivalent of that....it has to be so charged with that experience that it will give back that experience to somebody else".
It's a lovely colorful diary entry from the life of this artist.
