Peter Robson (1940-2014). A superb painting by our dear neighbor from Sparta, Ontario. Peter Robson passed last May and his strong personality and work ethic will be missed.
A listed Canadian artist, Peter was born in England and came to southwestern Ontario in 1966 and then into the small hamlet of Sparta where he kept his studio and home for the past 30 years.
He was known around Stratford as a prolific painter and who also worked with watercolors and sculpture. He has joined the ranks of world class painters along with Peter Snyder, Lance Russwurm, James Lumbers and Frank Panabaker, all from around this wonderful area.
Here, is a beautiful winter painting of the Benmiller Inn, once an old Woollen Mill, near Goderich, Ontario, abandoned for many years up until 1964 when it was transformed into a world class hideaway where people can enjoy the seasons in a spectacular nature retreat, in comfort. (It used to manufacture wool blankets in the early 1900’s).
A wonderful work from an interesting man.
"Paintings should need no speaker or commentator. Listen, and they will speak for themselves. It took many years for me to understand what becoming an artist meant and I am particularly happy in one respect. Art as a full time career for me came later in life and the prior years seem to have created a strong foundation for the work I now do. Painting for me has become a very important and necessary part of living." Peter Robson
