Inez Ada Buchanan born 1892 in Ontario, loved painting rural communities scattered across Ontario. Married to a doctor she moved into various towns and painted those neighborhoods.
I've found only two towns where she lived and painted. Actinolite was one of them, (described in another painting) and later it was the rural beauty of the Caledon countryside by way of the village of Alton just south of Orangeville, Ontario.
According to her notes several years after her painting of the Old Mill in Alton, it burned down.
She is a listed Canadian artist and her strong clearly formed drawings are wonderfully executed. And the colors and the feel of a forgotten time are superb.
I have many landscapes painted by women in Ontario but I love her work around a countryside the best.
The last record I have of this wonderful artist is from 1966 where she simply listed her address as 'Ontario'. She is listed with the National Gallery of Canada and I can't find any more information about her, aside from the two paintings I own.
Original vintage frame is in fair condition and this much larger work of hers is in good condition. Ready to hang.
