Orvokki Jalava (1900 - ) born in Helsinki, Finland and by the time she immigrated to Canada in her early 50's was already an accomplished artist.
The Jalava family, a family of artists, arrived from Helsinki Finland in 1952 and included Mauri and Anna-Liisa Jalava, Mauri’s brother Erkki and his wife, also named Anna-Liisa, their mother Orvokki and Mauri’s brother-in-law, Paavo (Paul) Hyttinen. (Please see my Paul Hyttinen listing with Etsy.)
Anna along with Erkki and Paul Hyttinen are listed Canadian artists and their works are represented by the National Gallery of Canada - Library and Archives / Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography.
Painted on masonite and framed in its original gesso on a wood frame these soft spoken artists paint some of the most delicate northern landscapes I've seen. Soft pastel colors and fine, careful drawings are a signature for the entire family.
Vintage wood and gesso frame has hairline cracks where one would expect them and the painting is in good condition, ready to hang.
