An impressive serigraph in the style of Jennifer Berringer. There is no information about Rita Hurault I can find but when I acquired the Jennifer Berringer's "Summer Storm", (also for sale), this one, with the same frame and subject matter came along with it.
And looking closely at the handwriting on the piece, both appear similar to each other. Berringer's is an exact signature to her other works, but this one, different name, same style.
I know that Jennifer had done a complete reassessment of herself in the 1990's. Her intentions were to revisit her works from the 1970's and 1980's and try to contact and understand what the collectors ( the Smithsonian, etc.) saw in her works in order to strip away any 'fame' her works would have had. She wanted to see what they saw in her designs.
The results of this exploration has resulted in a remarkable book: "Meaning by Design", where she is now teaching art students in a Maryland University how to decypher the 'design' in their portfolios. The book can be accessed on the internet.
This piece is a mastery of design, the cattails on the bottom right, the rocks behind them, the sea, the jutty and the sky. The title 'Summer Sea' says it all. It's a limited edition 64/150.
Vintage frame and artwork are in good condition, ready to hang.
