Peter Etril Snyder, b. 1944...A very well known listed Canadian artist.
While the subject matter of his paintings has been an important part of his success, Snyder himself is primarily concerned with aesthetics. He describes his goal in painting as making "something that is delicious to my eye." Aesthetics are more important to Snyder than subject, medium or anything else.
He is particularly interested in aspects of setting and light. Sometimes, he takes a photograph, sketches a drawing or paints a sketch of the same subject. He then takes all these "bits and pieces" to build files he will use to create paintings he calls tableaux.
In this colorful print we have cattle by the river, grazing under a red covered bridge while a single horse in harness had clip-clopped over the wooden boards pulling along a man and woman for what seems like nothing more than a leisurely drive down a small country road.
A lovely print, signed and numbered by the artist and ready to hang. The limited edition is numbered 145/500. En verso is a sticker from his Gallery in Waterloo.
Minor, minor scuffing on the frame
