Walter Campbell born in Toronto in 1951, is renowned for his intricate dry brush watercolor paintings of themes evolving around Victorian buildings of historic note or aesthetic value.
His vision of family life in the times of our forefathers on such special occasions as Christmas, Valentine's Day and Halloween are legendary. Campbell's original works of art, as well as his limited edition and signature series prints have quite a following.
The self-taught, 64-year-old Canadian has been capturing the essence of Victorian era on Canvas for over 40 years. Currently Walter Campbell paints tribute to Victorian architecture in North America out of his peaceful rural studio residence near Sunderland, Ontario.
"With a stroke of a paintbrush, stories are woven through his detailed watercolour originals. The images evoke memories and his works are a tribute to families in a timeless fashion, with stories that range from relationships with the land, our homes and our families and all the seasons and holidays we own." (From his website)
That pretty much sums it up.
"Autumn Dreams" is especially lovely because the only thing that seems to be posing is the house. The dad burning leaves by the side and the two kids and dog playing in the leafy abundance are blissfully unaware of the stately building behind them, which I'm sure, will welcome them in with open arms.
In Campbell's younger days he resided in Brockville, Ontario where this house stands on the shores of the St. Lawrence River. This painting is part of his "Gingerbread" series of paintings of century buildings.
