Spiesz barrister bookcase oak 4 tier 4 part blond brown finish with slide-up glass doors built c1950s { Bibliothèque d'avocat Spiesz en chêne à 4 niveaux en 4 parties finition brun blond avec portes coulissantes en verre construite dans les années 1950 } Description: Brown blond solid oak wood exterior sides, door frames and legs. Maple veneer over plywood on interior bases and backs. Simple minimalist square midcentury modern (mcm) design, built c1950s, similar to those of Office Specialties. Square legs are integral to the base tier, and a top is integral to the cap tier. Brass coloured metal pulls on doors, likely originals. Yellow label on back, with red lettering: Spiesz Furniture, Hanover, ON, Phone Torn (partially legible) sticker tag on inside of one tier: ? Desk Manufacturers Limited, ?, 163 (serial number?) History: Spiesz Company was established in 1909. Jared Spiesz was born in 1873 and died in 1967. The company was situated along Proctor St., in Hanover, Ontario, Canada. In 1956, the company was taken over by Knechtel Furniture and continued operating until 1966 with Arthur Wright as President. Dimensions: 70.75” H x 34” W x 11.75” D; effective interior Heights: all 13”; effective interior Depths: all 10” Condition: Excellent vintage condition ( 8.5 / 10 ). Fully functional after repairs. Thoroughly washed. One broken glass window was replaced at Patrick Gordon Framing. One screw for window metal tracking hardware replaced. Minor scratches on wood finish. No separation of plies of plywood on tier backs or bases.
