** Still in storage at BMS on Thu 30 Oct 2025. ** Danner antique arts & crafts oak sliding door stacking bookcase 2 stack 4 part c1910 {Danner antique arts and crafts chêne porte coulissante bibliothèque empilable 2 pile 4 partie c1910} Description: A rare and beautiful stacking / barrister / sectional / elastic oak bookcase in the Arts and Crafts / Mission style, with two book compartment stacks, built c1910. It is composed of four sections: a base with legs; two book compartments; and a top cap. Eight interior shelves in total, and four moveable shelves of which are sitting on metal supports in round holes. Two sliding doors for each tier, keep dust to a minimum on contents. Shelves and middle vertical boards are maple. Sides and frames are quarter sawn oak. Interior surfaces are another lighter tone hardwood (maple or birch). Top is elm with an ogee front. Tall square tapered legs. No door pulls. Back boards appear to be solid sheet boards, or perhaps plywood (cannot see layer lines on the end edges). The interior of each stack has a vertically split configuration, and a moveable shelf on each side. And then each shelf has 15 different height adjustments. This is the only Danner style barrister bookcase I’ve seen in person, with all others seen on the internet, on such high-end sites as 1stdibs. No maker marks visible. Likely built in Canada or USA. This bookcase is likely made by the Danner Furniture Company, or in that style. The bookcase is in original condition. This one has two sections that are stacking units with adjustable shelves on the inside of sections. The doors slide horizontally, the well-known Danner feature. Dimensions: 62” H x 37.25” W X 12.75” D; each book section 23.5” H; interior shelves effective depth 9 and 1/8”; vertical spacing on shelf height adjustment holes 1” Condition: Very good vintage condition 7.5 / 10. The doors slide well. Back boards have some cracks in the middle and the sides due to wood drying. It would be good to install a slim vertical board over the back centre of the backboards to hide the splitting and separation. I secured the backboards by removing some nails and adding more, so they now lie flat. A round metal foot pad is missing on two of the leg bases, each of 1” diam x 3/16” thick. This is a better than most example with nice bold tiger oak grain, original wavy glass doors, and 4 adjustable shelves. Danner Manufacturing Company primarily worked with Ash, Cherry, Oak, and Walnut but he was always open to custom orders whether it be additional carvings, odd size requests, or special lumbers being used.
