Description

Description: Antique Victorian bookcase {bibliotheque}, built c 1900. All solid wood - no plywood or particle board. {Tout en bois massif - pas de contreplaqué ni de panneaux de particules.} Faux quarter-sawn oak paint finish over another type of hardwood. {Finition peinture faux chêne scié sur un autre type de bois dur.} Open shelf bookcase. Four fixed position shelves. A relatively narrow bookcase, which would be ideal in small spaces. Decorative carved pieces on the top and bottom front edges.

Background info: "How to Create a Faux Oak Wood Grain – Glaze Method Oak is a beautiful hardwood with attractive grain patterns, an eye-pleasing color and a reputation for durability. The wood is highly sought after for cabinets, doors, flooring and furniture. The appeal and popularity of oak stands the test of time.

Unfortunately, the high demand for this slow-growing tree has reduced available supplies and raised the price. Ever-rising oak prices could make your dream-kitchen of oak cabinets remain only a dream. The good news is there is an excellent alternative – faux oak wood graining. This process successfully recreates the appeal of oak wood without the cost."

Obtained from a house in Prince Edward County, ON.

Condition: Fair to very good vintage condition (7 / 10). All joinery tight and sound. A very sturdy piece, structurally sound. Minor scratches and dings are present. From a smoke free household. A hole drilled in the lower back board, for passing wires.

The obvious issue is the hole in the bottom left hand shelf, which occupies about 40% of the shelf area. A simple solution is to place a board over the entire surface of the bottom shelf. Even with this hole, it is still a very sturdy piece, and much sturdier than a new bookcase purchased at Ikea.

Dimensions: 67.75” High x 31” Wide x 13.25” Deep; all boards 0.75" Thick; Shelves interior: 29.25" W x 12.5" D x 0.75" Thick.

New price $195. Original price $295 Can deliver for a fee within the Ottawa / Gatineau / Montreal areas.
