The forms are interlocking modular units that are dry-stacked (without mortar) and filled with rebar and concrete. The units lock together somewhat like Lego bricks and create a form for the structural walls or floors of a building. ICF construction has become commonplace for both low rise commercial and high-performance residential construction as more stringent energy efficiency and natural disaster resistant building codes are adopted. ICF offers the BEST COST-BENEFITS and long-term value when you take in consideration the insulation rating (R35) and not having to frame and insulate your basement. This is the perfect technology to build disaster resistant home / shelter and high efficiency homes. The thick expanded polystyrene exterior surface (2.75 to 8 in) would act as a cushion that can mitigate changing soil conditions and stress without affecting the structural integrity. When pressure hits the wall, foam absorbs it and spreads the energy over a larger surface area of concrete wall, greatly increasing its resistance to damage. Additional grounded rebar reinforcement can be installed to provide incredible structural strength as well as EMF protection similar to Faraday box design. ICF also makes an ideal retaining wall for your heated swimming pool, by reducing heat losses significantly over traditional construction.
