This is a piece of cowling from a 1942 de Havilland DHC-82C Tiger Moth produced in Downsview, Ontario. It is a portion of the centre cowling between front and rear cockpits. (see page from manual)
It is made of birch plywood on a wood frame (probably spruce), still covered with a remnant of the original fabric painted in RCAF trainer yellow.
This is understood to be part of one of a number of Tiger Moths previously owned by Tallmantz Aviation.
Tallmantz Aviation was a U.S.-based company that provided aircraft for Hollywood movies like The Great Waldo Pepper (1975) and Flight of the Phoenix (1965), Founded by Frank Tallman and Paul Mantz.
Tallmantz modified a number of Tiger Moths to look like JN-4 Curtiss Jennys for the movie The Great Waldo Pepper. At least two modified Tiger Moths were used in crash scenes.
There is a significant probability that this is from an aircraft used in the film. Either way, it is still a unique piece of aviation memorabilia.
