Description

Introduced as a wildly popular concept vehicle at the 1993 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Prowler was a radical departure for Chrysler Corporation. Its sleek, modernized hot-rod styling – originating from early Chip Foose-penned concept sketches. While its looks certainly created a sensation, the Prowler was an engineering and technology demonstrator with extensive use of lightweight aluminum including the chassis and suspension, perfect weight distribution, and innovative packaging. Spurred by unsolicited deposits from hopeful purchasers, production commenced for 1997 with the Prowler branded a Plymouth model. The 1998 model year was skipped entirely and when it was reintroduced for 1999, the Prowler now featured 253 factory-rated horsepower from its 3.5-liter V-6 engine, yielding very credible performance including 0-60 mph acceleration in just 5.9 seconds. Just 11,702 Prowlers were built in total for 1997 and 1999 through 2002. One of 3,170 produced, this 2001 Plymouth Prowler rolled off of Chrysler’s Conner Avenue, Detroit assembly line during September 2000, with delivery to AutoNation Chrysler-Plymouth-Jeep in Casselberry, Florida. According to the accompanying Warranty Booklet, the Prowler was sold to the first owner on April 7, 2001, with 65 recorded miles. In July 2007, it was officially imported to Quebec, Canada. As offered, the Prowler sports Black painted upper body surfaces yielding a smart 2-tone finish in concert with the factory Prowler Silver lower surfaces. As with all Prowlers, standard features and options are many, including the SOHC (per cylinder bank) aluminum-block 3.5-liter V-6 engine delivering 253 horsepower in concert with the 4-speed AutoStick automatic transmission. Featuring manual-shift capability and rear mounting, this transmission setup helps the Prowler deliver a sporty drive with excellent balance and the race-car-like handling provided by the factory-original lightweight aluminum suspension A-arms, inboard Koni coil over shock absorbers, and vented 4-wheel disc brakes. Other features and amenities include air conditioning and a high-end digital factory AM-FM CD stereo system, plus power brakes, locks, steering, and windows, a center console, and a Black convertible top, Black leather upholstery, 5-spoke custom wheels, and chrome dual exhaust tips finish it off. Enhancing the Prowler’s unforgettable styling, the front bumpers were deleted and replaced by chrome fairings housing the front turn-signal indicators, with the rear bumpers removed but stowed inside the Prowler’s spacious trunk. Documents include the dealer-issued books/manuals, including the 2001 Plymouth Prowler Owner’s Manual, Warranty Booklet, Pre-Delivery Checklist, and Vehicle Shipping Order listing factory data and options. Appraised value of $65,000. Plus HST & registration fees.
