Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet
While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.
Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.
Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.
When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!

Life has not been easy for Franny so far ... she is an insecure cat who reacts poorly to new situations and new people. As a kitten, Franny settled into her new home with a young couple and was content there unless strangers visited the house. Then she was on guard and would try and chase the visitors our of her territory! This was managed by her owners by simply putting her in a room when company was over. Problem solved. Until the children arrived. Franny slowly accepted the 2 children into her domain, but as the kids grew and started having friends over, Franny's aggression increased. She was spending most of her time locked away in the basement, and her owners felt that this was no life for her. It was clear that Franny needed a quiet home with no children. As you can imagine, life in our shelter has been no picnic for Franny. Although we do our best to make her comfortable, she is stressed out by the constant flow of people through her territory and the presence of all the other cats. Franny will need patient and understanding person to bring her out of her shell and earn her trust. We believe that person is out there .... somewhere. UPDATE MARCH 2015: We recently added a new office to our shelter. Franny was our first choice to be the "office cat". We hoped that once she had a space of her own she would feel more secure and happy. Day one ... as I type, Franny won't leave my lap. She is like a new cat! Happy to finally have a safe, quiet space to call home. Proof positive that our shelter motto stands true ... "There are no bad cats ... they are just misunderstood". Franny is going to make someone very happy when she is finally adopted!
