Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet
While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.
Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.
Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.
When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!

What Sparkle wants more than anything in the world is to be loved!
She caught our eye when we were rescuing cats from animal services last year. She's simply a beautiful girl! And so we named her Sparkle :)
She's quite young, our vet's best guess is that she's only a few years old. We don't know whether she was born with her unique body issues or whether she encountered some really bad experiences over her first year of life, but like so many that find their way to us, she likely has a sad story to tell. We could not leave her behind. This would be the start of a new, better story for Sparkle.
Off to the vet where we were told that her little stub of a tail was fractured in six places and she had hip and knee issues. She had surgery on her knees to reduce the pain, and then off she went to her foster home. After a nice, long rest, she headed out to find her home at one of our adoption centres where she became a favourite of staff and customers alike. Everyone loved her...but, sadly, no one adopted her. After a few months in the adoption centre we got a call that something appeared to be bothering her. Off she went back to our vet where it was discovered she had an enlarged heart. She is now on medication to address the heart issue, and her foster mom said she takes her pill nicely each day without a fuss with the help of a 'pill-popper'. She will probably have to be on them for the rest of her life.
Sparkle is a very sweet little girl. Her foster mom discovered she would come when she whistled! How cute is that? :) Sparkle also knows want she wants. If she does not want to do something or does not want to be picked up, she just lets you know.
She is back with her foster mom who first fell in love with her that day at animal servicesâ¦but it is not an ideal home because a resident cat does not approve and picks on little Sparkle. She would dearly love to have a lap of her own to lie on, but the other cats in the house seem to always take over the only lap. She needs a home where she can get more love and affection.
She gets along just fine with other cats in the house.
"And she still comes when I whistle!!!"
