Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet

While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.

Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.

Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.

When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!

    Description

We have two beloved cats that are bonded and need to be rehomed.

Bowie, the Maine coon, is a sensitive guy that was rescued as a feral kitten with a head injury. It’s because of his experience as a kitten that he is timid and his stress can lead to bladder pain and blood in the urine. As our family has grown, the house has become fuller and busier and Bowie finds it very stressful. It’s been recommend by our vet that he would benefit from a quiet home for his health.

We call him big baby Bowie because he’s a big boy (17 lbs) and wouldn’t hurt a fly. In true Maine coon fashion, he likes to chirp and trill and laze around with his human. He likes to be held on the couch and will splay out for belly rubs. Bowie is 7.

Our second cat is named Oliver. He’s a short hair tabby, around 15lbs and 12 years old. He’s curious and likes to be where you are, watching and observing. He enjoys going on a balcony or in the yard to lay around, but he never goes far from the door.

He loves sitting close and giving his purrs. He wants to sleep on the end of the bed and be close. We call him our guard dog because he’ll even growl at the door if a stranger comes by.

He can swat if someone he doesn’t know tries to pet him, but never his people.

They are bonded and love each other. We don’t take this decision lightly - we know it’s best for Bowie.

We’re hoping for a single person or couple with a quiet home and lifestyle. Experience with older / special needs cats would be ideal.

They come with a month of food, two scratch posts with beds attached, brushes and bowls. We also have a full cabinet for the litter box that they enjoy and keeps the litter box concealed.

These brothers are free to the right home.
