Vinyl LP issued by EMI Records in 1984 featuring four violin concertos by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) and sponsored by Nuovo Banco Ambrosiano a major Italian bank:
1. Violin Concerto in F major, RV 286 “Per la Solennita di S. Lorenzo played on a violin made in 1566 by Andrea Amati;
2. Violin Concerto in D minor, RV 243 “Senza Cantin” played on a violin made in 1734 by Giuseppe Guarneri;
3. Violin Concerto in E major, RV 270 “ Il Riposo” played on a violin made in 1658 by Niccolo Amati; and,
4. Violin Concerto in E minor, RV 277 “”Il Favorito” played on a violin made in 1715 by Antonio Stradivari.
Salvatore Accardo is the director and soloist and is accompanied by The Soloists of the International Musical Week of Naples, Italy.
This recording was presented as a keepsake to guests at a recital presented by the bank in association with The Italian Cultural Institute of Toronto and held at the Art Gallery of Ontario (Walker Court) on March 10th 1986. The recital featured a number of pieces played by Salvatore Accardo on instruments crafted by the aforementioned famous violin makers and accompanied by Luis Batlle performing on the Bosendorfer Imperial Piano made by the Remenyi House of Music.
This package also includes a fascinating booklet describing the violins of Palazzo Communale of Cremona, the formal invitation and the recital program.
