Band of Gypsys 2 est un album live posthume de Jimi Hendrix, publié en octobre 1986.
C'est la seconde fois que le producteur Alan Douglas s'associe à Capitol Records (la première étant le mini LP live "Johnny B. Goode"). Même si le titre suggère que toutes les chansons sont jouées par le Band of Gypsys, il n'y a que trois d'entre elles qui le sont en réalité. Les autres morceaux proviennent du concert d'Hendrix à l' International Pop Festival d'Atlanta le 4 juillet 1970, et du concert au Community Theatre de Berkeley le 30 mai 1970.
Cet album a été retiré du catalogue de Capitol Records après que l'on eut découvert que "Foxy Lady" et "Stop" avaient été tirées d'une vidéo du concert du 1er janvier 1970 au Fillmore East, le producteur Alan Douglas n'ayant pas accès au bandes originales à cette époque.
Band of Gypsys 2 is a posthumous live album by American rock musician Jimi Hendrix, released in October 1986 by Capitol Records. This was the second time producer Alan Douglas supervised a Hendrix record for the label, the first being the live mini LP Johnny B. Goode, which was released earlier the same year.
In a contemporary review for The Village Voice, music critic Robert Christgau gave Band of Gypsys 2 an "A–" and said he preferred it over the original Band of Gypsys (1970) record because it lacks the "brotherhood bromides" that were on that album's second side. He added that the versions of classic Hendrix songs on this record's second side "sound a lot fresher now than they would have fifteen years ago, and not just because pressing techniques have taken such a leap". The ‘Band of Gypsys’ album would become the only official live album released during Hendrix’s lifetime. In September 1970, he died of a drug-related overdose. Other songs by the trio were eventually gathered on ‘Band of Gypsys 2′ in 1986 and on 1999’s ‘Live at the Fillmore East.’ Cox and Miles also recorded some studio sessions with Hendrix that were collected on 2013’s ‘People, Hell and Angels.’
