The Kenshokan dojo offers adults (16+ years, 13 with a parent) the opportunity to study the Karate of the Zendokan Dharma Kumiai (ZDK), one of Canada's oldest Karate groups (1959).
ZDK Karate is a unique, very effective, non-competitive style that offers direct and practical self-defence with a focus on the development of the individual.
You do not need to be the paragon of fitness to begin, but you will certainly become healthier as time goes on. Regardless of your current physical state, you will be able to practice Karate as the art allows for variations on techniques to suit your needs. Individualized training within the parameters of the ZDK curriculum makes this art so beneficial for all people.
ZDK Karate also makes an excellent complement to other martial arts. Many students in the style also practice other martial art forms.
Instruction is given by Jim Wilson (7th dan Karate, 6th dan Iaido) who has 40 years experience in the martial arts, along with a team of other experienced instructors, including John Bayes (7th dan Karate), and Mike Moffatt (5th dan, Karate).
As we are not a business, monthly dues are extremely affordable ($35 a month, with discounts available for students and seniors). Come join a great group of people!
We also offer training in iaido (traditional Japanese swordsmanship of the samurai).
