Description

In 1959, Chrysler Corporation’s Plymouth Division celebrated its 30th anniversary and produced its 11 millionth vehicle. Most importantly, though, Plymouth held onto its enviable third place standing in American automobile sales rankings. One of only 5.063 examples produced, this highly attractive 1959 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible was assembled at Chrysler’s Evansville, Indiana factory and according to the prior owner, it was purchased new by a lady resident in the Oakland, California area who drove it sparingly, remaining there until 2005, when the second owner acquired it. As offered, it celebrates Plymouth’s successes in 1959 with its eye-catching Red repaint and freshly reupholstered Red and White seats. The Belvedere’s captivating Virgil Exner styling features a bold frontal treatment, clean bodysides, prominent tailfins, and an embossed trunk lid. Other features and amenities include a power-operated Tan convertible top, Ample power is delivered by the Belvedere-specific 318 CI V-8 engine, factory-rated at 230 BHP with an economical 2-barrel carburetor. Chrysler’s renowned Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission delivers the power via Chrysler’s futuristic pushbutton shifter to the left side of the Belvedere’s dash. The engine compartment and engine are tidy in presentation, including a correct air cleaner and rocker covers. The Belvedere’s full frame, suspension, and bakes are presented in maintained and correct driver quality. A recent test drive confirms the vehicle’s strong running order, with the engine starting immediately, settling quickly into an idle, and sounding great through the single exhaust system. The Torqueflite automatic transmission’s futuristic pushbutton shifter to the dash operates properly and the Belvedere steered and stopped well during a recent brief test drive. Appraised value of $90,000. Plus HST & registration fees. WE WILL TAKE ANYTHING IN ON TRADE! jason@groganclassics.com
