Description
Volkswagen’s iconic Type 1 “Beetle” remains the most influential car ever imported to North America. Rooted in Germany’s prewar KdF-Wagen “People’s Car” initiative, the Beetle enjoyed continuous production through 2003. Remarkably similar in concept to Henry Ford’s equally famous Model T, the Beetle was a true “people’s car” of durable design, economical operation, and low price. Countless improvements culminated in the Super Beetle by the early 1970s with a modern MacPherson strut front suspension, slightly revised fontal styling, and many welcome detail refinements. The Super Beetle Cabriolet continued to be imported to North America and sold through 1979 with Bosch fuel injection adding useful pep to the famous air-cooled 4-cylinder VW engine and the ability to comply with tougher emissions requirements.
This very nicely preserved and presented 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Cabriolet was produced during January 1979 with the body built by the famed Karmann Coachworks in Osnabrück, Germany. Sporting a nice exterior finish, glossy chrome bumpers, and a newer White convertible top including a heated glass rear window and full headliner, the Beetle retains the original-appearing Black vinyl upholstery and original side windows. A factory gas heater is present and an updated Alpine AM/FM CD stereo unit delivers additional entertainment. Sporty factory steel wheels mount White stripe radial tires. The original-appearing top cover is included. Fun and festive, this 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Cabriolet is ready to collect and enjoy. Appraised value of $35,000. Plus HST & registration fees.
