Log Cabin construction worker. The initial job duties the Employee will be expected to perform will be the following:
Design and building a 7x7m log cabin including foundation and roof. This cabin is being built in the traditional Norwegian style for which requires special training and skills. We also require repairs to our existing cabins which are also built in the Norwegian style; As a lead builder, the employee is responsible for • Joinery - including measuring, scribing, cutting, shaping, and assembly • Timber framing • Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements • Building intricate stair systems, roof systems, and other decorative features • Preparing layouts ensuring compliance with building codes • Cutting door and window openings • Safe operation of a chainsaw, power tools, timber shed machinery, and hand tools • Working at heights • Overseeing junior carpenters and apprentices
Salary is 17.00$ per hour, regular work hours from 9:00am- 5:00pm.
Employee will have to live onsite at Big Eddy Lodge. This is a very remote place with no road access, Cumberland House, SK is the nearest community. Travel to the site is by boat. You will be provided room and board. This is a hunting lodge, so meals are non-vegetarian. No smoking is allowed in cabins or worksite. Cabins are wood-heated. There is no cell service and internet service is very limited. We will travel to Cumberland House every two weeks for supplies and deliver/pick up mail. Due to COVID you will be required to isolate for two weeks before arriving at our location, and visitors are limited and with a discussion with supervisors, visitors can be allowed.
Having your own boat and skidoo is ideal as travel to our place is remote and if you want to have more freedom to travel on weekends/ after hours, this is recommended. Speaking French or German is considered an asset.
