What this does is to connect two computers (PC's, laptops) together so that you only need ONE monitor, one keyboard, and one mouse-trackball for both. This model also has audio support so you only need ONE set of speakers or one headset for both computers.
Once computers are hooked up, the control box can be tucked away with your rear cables. A wired single-button remote control is what you use to switch between both computers. This is hardware only, so it doesn't matter what OS you use as long as you have the right DVI port in back or on your video card. You don't need a separate power connection for the control box. Control box has USB ports for hardwired keyboard or mice, or you can use a wireless receiver for both.
