Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet

While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.

Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.

Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.

When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!

Description

*Please read entire ad * Raising calm, centred puppies, with excellent temperaments for family and therapy dogs is my number one focus. I raise my puppies in a unique way, hands on, with love, gentleness and trust, following the Puppy Culture Curriculum, which is similar to Rule of Seven for puppies, but much more advanced. I am quite different from most breeders, and was even told by a vet that he had never met another breeder as involved, attentive and conscientious as me. I am proud to be different. Over decades of breeding, I have formulated a breeding and whelping program where the puppy is seen as a whole and individual being rather than just another puppy in the litter. They are named, and their individual needs are taken into account. Our newborn puppies are kept in a clean, warm, supervised environment 24 hours a day. I sleep in the room with them, and I also work from home in the same room, so they are fully tended to all hours of the day for the absolute best start in life. They are weighed twice daily, and handled multiple times daily to begin their training. As they grow, new toys, problem solving activities, textures, sounds (loud and soft), other animals and people of all ages are introduced to them. Your puppy won’t fear thunderstorms or fireworks because they have been trained that no matter how loud the sounds are they are safe. I know that everything that happens in a puppy’s environment is training them, for better or worse, it’s training them. Every single aspect matters. Puppies raised in barns or basements can lack the warmth, clean air, cleanliness or supervision they need. Puppies raised by people who don’t understand puppy development can lack the essentials of training and socialization that they need. Puppies raised by people who are inexperienced either by accident or to make a quick buck are the ones that end up in shelters or cost thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of time to train out of problematic behaviours like anxiety or fear. You may think that your family can overcome a puppy’s bad start, from a cheap breeder, but it’s often not possible and if it is it’s time and money you could have saved by knowing that it really does matter where your puppy comes from. Choosing a good breeder who does all of the above and who uses only breeding dogs that have had multiple generations of dogs who have been health tested can avoid a lifetime of problems for you and your puppy. Can you find a cheaper puppy? Yeah, definitely, but will that puppy be cheaper in the long run with extra vet fees, training costs and time? Probably not. Will that cheap puppy’s breeder offer you the support you need to raise a happy, healthy puppy? Will they be available for the dog’s lifetime to take them back if something unthinkable occurred and you couldn’t keep them for the life of your puppy? I will be there for you, and the puppy can come back to me at anytime. Dogs from good breeders don’t end up in shelters or rescues. What is an Australian Labradoodle: No, it’s NOT an australian shepherd crossed with a poodle. It’s a specialized mix of breeds created in Australia in the 1980’s to produce a hypoallergenic, non shedding therapy dog. Just as purebred puppies are born with certain traits guaranteed and puppies that all look and act similarly, so are Australian Labradoodles. Just like purebred dogs have been specially created from selective breeding and selective breed crossing to create them, so have Australian Labradoodles. You’ve seen F1 F2, F3, well these doods are like F50. There are breeding rules and expectation to follow so that every Australian Labradoodle fits within the breed standards. The Puppy Culture Curriculum: I follow this phenomenal curriculum with all my puppies. It starts when they are only 24 hours old! It starts with ENS(Early neurological stimulation) and moves on to handling exercises, noise experiences, tactile items are introduced, toys that move and make sound, tunnels, tiny bridges, wobbly surfaces, etc as they grow. ENS is done to help build stronger adrenal glands, improved heart rate and to develop more tolerance to stress which will produce a calmer, more centred, well balanced and confident puppy and dog. Your puppy will know basic commands, be well on the way to being housetrained, and is crate trained for nights
