Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet

While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.

Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.

Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.

When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!

Description

Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Age: Young
Sex: Female
Size: M

This elegant and intelligent girl is Hope, and what she's hoping for is that a very exceptional person will come to her rescue. Hope has faced many challenges in her short life, but she has always kept her spirits high! Having been a stray as a pup, Hope didn't get the nutrition she needed for optimum health, making it difficult for her bones to strengthen properly. This poor development has led to hip dysplasia and joint effusion. Even though Hope is on vet-advised daily natural supplements and pain management, hip surgery is in her near future. Despite this setback, Hope is a darling. We believe her to be mostly Dutch shepherd, and she shows all the great qualities of that breed, known for their high intelligence, trainability, loyalty, and alertness. (Unfortunately it's a breed that's not known to our computer system, which is why we've had to list her as a German shepherd mix.) She enjoys being provided with plenty of mental stimulation/learning as well as moderate amounts of physical exercise. Hope is a very affectionate girl, and she loves the luxury of having a soft bed, especially if it's yours! Having previously lived with older children, she is very tolerant with them. Because of some sensitivity in Hope's paws, however, we're recommending she go to a family where the children are old enough to understand she doesn't like her feet handled. She's good with other dogs and great with cats. She tends to be quite fearful of strangers, especially males, and will warn them off by barking and growling. Given space and time (and possibly a treat or two), she'll gradually warm up to them, though. Hope walks well on leash, although she could use a little polish. She knows basic obedience commands and would enjoy doing more work of this type, as it's a pleasing task for her. Her recall is immediate but generally only for her person. She'd thrive on working on some kind of training every day to keep her mind stimulated, and she shows lots of potential to excel in all fields except those with high demands for strength and endurance. We know we're asking a lot of her potential new owner, but this is such a brave little girl, and such a bright one, that if you have the financial resources to pay for her surgery when the time comes as well as the emotional resources to give her the love she needs, she'll return your investment with her complete devotion every day of her life.
