Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet

While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.

Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.

Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.

When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!

Kijiji Pet Welfare Partners:

Description

Looking for a well bred Goldendoodle from an ethical and responsible GANA registered Gold Level breeder and natural rearer?

We are Scallywag Doodles located in the Cowichan Valley.

We are one of only a few breeders of Goldendoodles and Golden-Aussiedoodles in Canada who fully health tests our breeding dogs and raise our puppies on an advanced socialization curriculum - ensuring they are well adjusted and confident puppies whose health is at the forefront of our mission.

Our mission is to elevate the breeding of doodles, to improve the consistency of temperament, structure and coats in each litter and to raise confident and stable puppies who are placed in homes that complement or match their energy levels.

We carefully match our breeding pairs to ensure they complement each other, to better the structure and coat types and bringing together sound temperaments that make excellent family pets or service dog prospects.

We are accepting applications for our 2 upcoming litters due in early June and ready to go home in August

The 1st litter will be mini golden-aussiedoodles (Goldendoodle sire 25lb x Aussiedoodle dam 35lb) both have all their health clearances, Pennhip, OFA elbows, OFA cardiac, CAER eye and genetic disease panel. Fantastic temperaments on both parents, low prey drive, calm, excellent off switch, people focused, big snuggle bugs. Misty is very intuitive and quite tenderhearted, she is my little side kick, my shadow, my ride or die, she is blue Merle and can produce brown and cream with Remi, along with some possible patterns like phantom/tan points, sable with or without white and maybe some Merle’s like misty too…her coat is wavy so paired with Remi we are expecting, fully furnished straight coats, wavy coats and curly coats - there will be no Unfurnished flatcoat puppies in this litter. Straight coats are not flat coats, who have smooth faces like a retriever - furnished straight coats are the epitome of doodle coats - they are a shaggy floppy mop style coat, straight moustache and top knot that tends to part in the centre when longer, the coat generally has a wavy appearance due to the furnishing gene and is one of the easiest of doodle coats to maintain, it still needs regular brushing and regular clipping - the hair is growing constantly. Remi is a multigenerational Goldendoodle such a happy dog, he loves everyone and everything, theres not a mean bone in his body, I’ve never seen him lift a lip to snarl or ever heard a growl from him he is an everyone pleaser, submissive lover and snuggler at the end of a busy day. He has a soft wavy English cream coat and has almost human like greeny amber eyes, he and Misty are identical in height at 17” to the withers and we expect their offspring to be phenomenal, this is Mistys 2nd litter and she is an outstanding attentive mother.

Our 2nd litter will be a GANA registered Goldendoodle litter with Dolly and Remi. Dolly is our small standard poodle 44lb and 21” to the withers, health tested genetically clear, OFA hip, elbow and cardiac certified and CAER eyes normal, she has a unique wavy coat, she is a cream Parti colour, which means she has more than 50% white in her coat. Dolly is a quiet, sensitive dog, agile and playful, she doesn’t ask for much, she is not at all demanding of attention or confrontational, and is happiest being chased by a littler of puppies or chasing the tail of her bestie Cooper! Paired with the adorable Remi these 2 will produce the most gorgeous classical coloured Goldendoodles in straight, wavy and curl non shedding fully furnished coats, perhaps with a splash of white and about half the litter with be Parti like Dolly in cream, caramel, golden or red colours. We can’t wait to meet this litter, with the qualities and traits this pairing bring to the table we are expecting the litter to be outstanding. We will be keeping our fingers crossed for a potential future stud from this litter. The puppies will range in size from 25lb like Remi up to 45lb like Dolly, with the majority being in the 35lb range.

Whilst we focus a lot on health testing before we even get to the breeding stage, what we really focus on is how the puppies are raised once they arrive and for the time they are with us. Starting at 3 days old and for 2 weeks we begin handling the puppies and putting them through Early Neurological Stimulation and Scent Introduction, this makes for puppies with stronger cardiovascular health and more resilient nerve strength, early introduction to scents paves the way for a more nose driven puppy which is important for working them or in placements where scent is used such as for medical alert dogs. As ENS and ESI ends at 16 days so the puppies eyes are starting to open, once they can see we start placing tactile items in their whelping box, then by 3 weeks they start walking so we introduce more items for them to climb over and develop muscle strength, as well we add a potty area, and so on - as they reach new milestones so we add to their experiences and challenges, developing their problems solving abilities, by the time they are 7 weeks old we temperament and aptitude test them to really hone in on their personality traits and score their performance, this aids in the puppy's placement with their future family. Whilst we want families to have a hand in picking their new puppy we also want them to pick the right puppy for their lifestyle. An older couple don’t necessarily want a puppy who is high energy, high drive, they might want the quiet puppy who likes nothing more than sitting in your lap being stroked, where as the family with young children don’t want a dog with high prey drive who’s going to chase the children or the family cat, but they also don’t want a couch potato! Someone looking for an emotional support animal might want the cuddly snuggler but what they ‘need’ is the puppy who likes to snuggle but is also motivated to work for it’s handler and wants to get up off the sofa and get outside! Placing a puppy in the right home where they are set up for success is the only way to place puppies in our opinion.

By 8 weeks old puppies come to your home very well adjusted and confident, having been raised in our home and exposed to many different sights and sounds, experiences and challenges as well as potty training and crate training to enable a smooth transition to your home and the outside world.
