The Residential Waste Collection Driver will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers.
The driver will collect solid waste or organics from carts using a mechanical arm or recyclables manually in blue bags and transporting to post-collection facilities.
An ideal candidate will have a friendly demeanor and is physically capable of completing job duties in a positive, team oriented and supportive environment.
Consistency and reliability are key as waste collection is considered an essential service.
Responsibilities:
- Successfully and safely operate assigned equipment.
- Perform pre- and post-trip inspection daily.
- Perform work assignments received from the manager, normally without close supervision.
- Prepare, maintain and present work orders, equipment maintenance, incident and safety reports as required.
- Ensure trucks and equipment are safely and securely stored when not in use.
- Advise supervisor of any requirements for maintenance of repairs.
- All paperwork, including entering data in the daily logs, is completed and submitted in an accurate and timely basis.
- Safety procedures are continually followed to target zero incidents/lost time injuries/property damages.
- Regular communication with the supervisor to maintain a high level of understanding about the work, resources and overall client satisfaction.
- Promptly taking a proactive approach to assess and mitigate hazardous conditions to ensure that all
safety and operational activities are successful.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum Class 3 Operator's License with air brake "Q" endorsement is required.
- Minimum of 3 years truck driving/operating experience.
- Previous waste collection industry experience is an asset.
- Experience troubleshooting situations to find the right solutions
- Ability to operate the equipment from a right-side or left-side drive cab.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and dispatchers.
Ability to follow instructions and work under limited supervision.
Ability to control operations of equipment; maneuvering truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces, using mirrors to back distances of approximately 120 feet or more
Follow all safety standards, equipment checks and precautions in performance of all duties. Comply with all provincial, local and company rules on safety and vehicle operation.
General mechanical aptitude by possessing knowledge of trucks and operational equipment.
Proven organizational and time management skills.
Clear communication and spotting techniques.
Lifting up to 50lbs, sitting for extended periods of time, and repetitive movements.
Shifts may require occasional extension to ensure work is fully completed.
