For sale: An extremely rare, 1950's vintage Thorens E53 PA turntable, with laminated plywood plinth and S shaped tone arm. I purchased this unit from an estate sale.. This Thorens turntable model was manufactured in Switzerland in the 1950's and from my Internet research, is apparently a very early direct drive unit. It has 3 speeds (33, 45, and 78 RPM.) It is currently set up to run on standard North American 120 volt 60 Hz house current, but can be changed to run on 220 volt 50 Hz.. The turntable sits on a laminated plywood plinth covered with genuine wood veneer. The tonearm is an S shaped high quality unit with ball bearing pivots, adjustable tracking weight and antiskate The cueing is accurate and well damped, so is very gentle on records. The turntable has a removeable armboard, which would make it very easy to swap out different tone arms. The current tonearm accepts standard SME Make no mistake, this is an audiophile quality turntable, and it sounds absolutely fantastic! This unit delivers incredibly clean, clear, detailed, accurate, and vibrant sound! This turntable is ready to plug and pla,, and must be heard to be appreciated!
