This hoof trimming clinic offers you the chance to learn about hooves and barefoot hoof care, including how to perform a maintenance trim on your own horse.
More and more horses are experiencing hoof problems these days, many of which could be avoided by following a more natural approach to hoof care. Know Hoof, Know Horse has never been more true. Navicular, Laminitis and Insulin Resistance are on the increase but this clinic will teach you many ways in which you can lower the risks (and lessen vet bills!) for your horse. Correct hoof form, based on Mother Nature's design, goes a long way towards this. Subtle differences in trim methods can help restore hooves to their original healthy state.
You will also learn the best methods of horse keeping that allow your horse to be healthier, happier and fitter.
CLINIC OUTLINE **** Day 1 LECTURE DAY -------------------------------------------------- 9AM-5PM - The pillars of a healthy horse - Anatomy, Structure and Function - Dissection - External and Internal hoof relationships - Evaluating hoof health/ Evaluating Lameness / Reading the hoof capsule - Hoof grooming lecture - Trimming tool discussion/demo - Hoof grooming practice (cadavers)
**** Day 2 LECTURE & CADAVER DAY -------------------------------------------------- 9AM-5PM - Set-up trim lecture - Set-up trim demo - Hoof pathologies and how to address them - Trimming practice (cadavers)
**** Day 3 LECTURE & CADAVER DAY ---------------------------------------------------- 9AM-5PM - How teeth affect feet review/questions - Navicular - Laminitis/Founder - Trimming practice (cadavers)
**** Day 4 TRIMMING DAY -------------------------------------------------- 9AM-4PM - Assessing your horse, mapping, formulating a plan - Trimming your horse's hooves
COST: $400 = Day 1 only $600 = Days 1-2 $800 = Days 1-3 $1000 = Days 1-4
Stalls are available for boarding your horse if you need. Please call our host Lisa at 306-460-8740. Please bring your own food, snacks, beverages and lawn chair.
