The Brown Women's Empowerment Sisterhood was founded in November of 2020 with the ultimate goal of empowering, protecting, and supporting women across Africa and South Asia. While this is the central focus of our organization, we have also held fundraising campaigns on behalf of local non-profits and initiatives, including the Native Women's Shelter of Montreal. We operate within an anti-oppressive, decolonial, and intersectional feminist framework.

Our upcoming event, which is the launch of our newest programming series titled Girl Talk sessions, will take place on Thursday, September 23rd via Zoom (online). Girl Talk sessions are spaces for dialogue and discussion, a safe place in which our members and members of the public can negotiate their identities and engage each other in conversation on a variety of topics that are directly related to BWES values and objectives. The theme/title of our first session is "Decolonizing our Beauty Standards".

The event will comprise of a short presentation by Maika Nguyen, MA candidate in Media Studies at Concordia University, a Q & A session and a block of time reserved for conversation amongst attendees.

Interested in feminism, beauty, decolonial approaches, BIPOC issues, and more? This is the event for you! Do be sure to spread the word and encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to attend.
