Over the past few years, remote work has become commonplace in the tech world. Many cities are becoming too unaffordable and with companies having to compete for talent, sometimes offering at least 2 times the salary they could offer in smaller cities, remote work is shifting in favour of smaller cities with no daily commutes.

Imagine waking up and only having to worry about making your morning coffee, and not spending an hour getting dressed, warming up your car in the winter, and driving in snowstorms, to get to an office. When you get to your office, you’re happy to see your coworkers but realize you are distracted more than you like and sometimes it’s going to prevent you from getting your work done. With so many project management and team communication tools available online, you can still have meetings and connect with your teams.

Here in the City of Cornwall and surrounding areas, we hear these stories about remote workers who have chosen to stay here and work for global companies. We thought we would pull together this primer to show you how everything is shifting and that there are resources out there to help you with your remote job search.

We'll talk about:

What is remote work? What are the statistics of remote work vs working in the office? Who are the big remote work companies? What kinds of jobs are in high demand for remote work? Training opportunities for those jobs. Building your resume and your LinkedIn profile. Where to apply. What to expect during the interview process. Setting up a home office and/or finding a space to work from. Communication tools and tips once you land your dream remote job.
