2 months update: The roots are growing crazy. Nothing new on the leaves, guess the roots grow strongly first and then starting the leaves, I will keep update 4.5 months update: The first leaf pops up, so excited about it
LIGHT AND WATER: The light is 12 inches above the plants, don't wanna put it lower cz the light might burn the plants. As a test, put your hand between the light source and the tips of the leaves, if you can feel the heat, then the light is too close.
The light is on during night time 10pm-8am, keep Ph more stable cz it will drop at night.
The brand of the light which I'm using is the pic below.
I'm using RO/DI water and salinity is 1.024, temperature: 27c (80f)
I just soaking 2/3 the size of the seeds in the sump (you can put in your display tank as well) and they are growing successfully under above conditions. I will give you a new one free of charge if the roots don't grow under the reference. You can use an other led light, probably they are all same or even the grow is faster than mine, but i have not tested yet, in this case it is all your responsible for your plants.
HOW MANY SEEDS DO YOU NEED: Be honest, i don't have a specific number for that, cause every tank is different. Ex: 2 tanks are same size, but one is less coral less fish, other has more fish coral and over feeding (including me, i know the habits is not good for my tank but i can't stop feeding my pair clownfishes, they just keep waving their tails when they see me lol). So the second absolutely need more seeds than the first one. But i can share my experience about my tank. I have 50g+30g sump, and I'm having about 17 seeds in my sump for the last two months. As a result, i can see a sufficient result, my nitrate is around 10 compare to 40 or 20 before. In addition, i cut down from 10% to 5% water change weekly and the corals are still happy.
In conclusion 50g tank +30g sump = 17 seeds + about 2 months for me see a good result.
IS THE PLANTS WORTH TO INVEST AND REPLACE YOUR PROTEIN SKIMMER FOREVER? First of all, I have to introduce my tank: I have a 4 fishes, a pair of clownfishes, blue tang and yellow tang which are all medium size and about 15 corals. I'm overfeeding person. I'm using Reef Octopus 110 model. It works very well, it skims a lot dirty things. Be honest, amount of the nasty water before and after I introduced the plants into the tank is not much different. It meant 17 seeds is good enough to make significant change regarding nitrate issue but still not enough number to replace my protein skimmer. I will put 8 more, so total is 25 seeds and keep watching for the next two months. I will keep update. Thank you for visiting.
