Description
The pygmy corydora (Corydoras pygmaeus) is a small, peaceful freshwater fish native to the slow-moving waters of the Amazon River basin in South America. Growing to a maximum size of just about 1 inch (2.5 cm), it is one of the tiniest species in the corydoras genus. Known for its social nature, the pygmy corydora thrives in schools and is often seen foraging along the tank bottom for food, which typically includes detritus, small invertebrates, and algae. This species has a distinctive appearance, with a slender body, a light tan or pale yellow color, and dark markings along its sides. Due to their small size and calm temperament, pygmy corydoras are popular in community tanks, particularly with other peaceful species. Their hardy nature and ability to adapt to a range of water conditions make them a favorite for both beginner and experienced aquarists.
